| Fans Always On (and lm-sensors VS acpi) |
| Posted: niklas @ Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:13 pm |
I just bought it, put Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it and it performs very well.
The temperature is always around [47-52] degrees Celsius.
The fans are always on, which is consuming battery and a little bit noisy.
Is this normal behaviour? Do your fans stop sometimes?
I've been searching for a way to modify the threshold that triggers the activation of the fans but the only solution I found is lm-sensors. Unfortunately lm-sensors does not recognize the sensors of the NC10.
Second question: Do you know any other way to modify the fans activation rules?

Has anyone tried this on the NC10? Any view on how well it runs?
What's the best way to go now, use this or upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04?

Into the problem, after "successfully" installing the wireless card driver from linux-backports-modules-intrepid (wow, I actually remember the whole thing, probably because I retried it like a hundred times...), and rebooted, there's still no internet.
The only way to go to the Internet is to connect it via ethernet, which sucks obviously. What's Ubuntu for when there's no internet on the fly? So, while spending many hours and sweat troubleshooting, I opened up Hardware Drivers and tried Activating the Atheros driver. (Why would it be disabled in the first place anyway?)
After asking for permission, it goes back to the original screen with the Activate button still... active. To explain better, here's a screenshot. (g...
